Basil grows to a height of 20 to 60 centimetres and is one of the most popular herbs. The egg-shaped leaves of basil, which are often slightly curved upwards, are visually very striking compared to many other herbs. Depending on the variety, the leaves can be up to 5 cm long and 3.2 cm wide.
Basil is mainly used in Italian cuisine. The fine aroma of the leaves goes perfectly with tomatoes, courgettes or aubergines and is almost always an ingredient in herb pesto. Basil should always be
used fresh if possible, as the flavouring substances are gradually lost under heat.
