Lovage is a hardy, perennial herbaceous plant that can grow up to 50 cm high. Its fresh, dark green and shiny leaves are strongly serrated and incised. They retain their flavour even after a long cooking time.
The aromatic, sweetish-bitter flavour is strongly reminiscent of Maggi spice, which gives lovage the nickname “Maggi herb” and reveals a lot about its areas of use: (clear) soups, stews, sauces, roasts (especially mutton and beef), poultry and vegetables.
