Dill is an umbelliferous plant with yellow flowers and very finely pinnate leaves that end in threadlike tips. It has a fresh green to blue-green colour and grows to a height of between 20 – 40 cm.
Its highly fragrant essential oil gives dill leaves and seeds a pleasant, fresh and spicy aroma with a slightly sweet flavour. Its nickname “cucumber herb” reveals one of its main areas of application: Dill makes cucumber dishes and pickled cucumbers particularly flavourful. However, it also goes well with all fish dishes, salads, quark and cream cheese dishes, herb sauces and herb dips.
